About This Project

Alinghi came to the public consciousness in 2003 when the team not only became the first European syndicate to win the America’s Cup, but also the first team ever to win on debut. The Auld Mug was retained in the 32nd edition in 2007 to cement Aminghi’s place in history, before the oldest trophy in international sport headed back into American hands in 2010.

A new chapter began in 2011 with the return to the Extreme Sailing Series. A one-design class, it places sport and competition at the forefront, with each team able to approach the start line with the same chance of success. Similarly, the Decision 35 circuit provide a great platform for the team to showcase their skills…Victories in the Bol d’Or on Lake Geneva in 2011 and 2012 (the latter in a new record time for the D35 class of 6 hours 25 minutes) meant that Alinghi joined an elite group of those who have won this prestigious trophy six times.

2013 and 2014 heralded back-to-back Vulcain Trophy victories, taking our all-time total to five and cementing the team’s position as the most successful team in the competition’s history. The period also saw Alinghi top the standings twice in the Extreme Sailing Series – in 2013, Alinghi lost out on the title on Act win count back, but there was no such heartbreak in 2014, with the second victory in the series, following the triumph in 2008.
